The Magistrates Court

The Magistrates Court was created by Chapter 14 of volume II of the Laws of Fiji.

The Magistrates Court is a court of limited jurisdiction as opposed to the High Court which has unlimited and inherent jurisdiction.

The Magistrates Courts are empowered by law to preside over criminal, civil and family matters.

The establishment allows for 22 sitting Resident Magistrates.
